On the afternoon of May 3, 2018, Professor Xin Wenjun of Sun Yat-sen University gave a lecture on "TNF-α-mediated δ-catenin palmitoylation through Nav1.6 leading to neurological headache" at the School of Basic Medical Science of Henan University. Some experts, teachers and student representatives from the School of Basic Medicine, School of Life Science and other Colleges attended the meeting. The report was hosted by Professor Ji Xinying, the vice dean of the School of Basic Medical Science.
Neuropathic pain refers to a pain syndrome caused by primary lesions or dysfunctions in the central or peripheral nervous system. It occurs with damage or dysfunction of the pain pathways in the central nervous system, and inflammation, infection, trauma, ischemia, Metabolism and other factors are closely related. At present, there are already some analgesic drugs for the clinical treatment of neuropathic pain, but the mechanism of neuropathic pain still remains unclear. Professor Xin Wenjun gave a detailed description on the signal transduction pathway and sodium channel type related to neuropathic pain on membrane proteins, the relationship between TNF-α and palmitoylation of δ-catenin, how to determine the neuropathic pain induced by DHHC3 through mediating δ-catenin palmitoylation, and the interaction between the palmitoylation of δ-catenin and KIF3a.
After the meeting, experts and students had a heated discussion on how inflammation caused pain, the role of dynein in the way it was involved, the experimental techniques involved and the factors inducing neuropathic pain with Professor Xin Wenjun. The report ended with a big round of applause.
