In the mid-summer season, the academic atmosphere of the vast Central Plains is very lively. With the support of Chinese Society for Immunology and Henan University, the 8^th summer school for doctoral candidates was successfully held at Henan University from July 15^th to July 24^th, 2019. The summer school was hosted by Chinese Society for Immunology, organized by the School of Medicine, the School of Basic Medicine, the National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Antibody Drug Development Technology, Henan University, and co-organized by Henan Society for Immunology.

Following the high standards and high requirements for many years, 15 leading experts and professors of basic immunology and clinical research from all over the country were invited to give lessons, including Academician Zhigang Tian of the University of Science and Technology of China, Prof. Zhanguo Li of Peking University, Prof. Yuanfang Ma of Henan University, Prof. Wanli Liu of Tsinghua University, Prof. Yi Zhang of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Prof. Xiaofeng Qin of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Prof. Bo Huang of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Prof. Jianqing Xu and Prof. Dajin Li of Fudan University, Prof. Ying Wan of Army Medical University, Prof. Chengjin Li of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Prof. Liansheng Zhang of Lanzhou University, Prof. Quanxing Wang of Navy Medical University, and Prof. Lian Zhou of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Focusing on hot topics in the field of immunology, the experts showed relevant results in different research fields, expanded students' mode of professional thinking, enhanced the pertinent communication between students and experts, promoted the scientific research work conducted by students, and established the platform for interdisciplinary communication. This summer school provides students a feast of immunological knowledge. Based on their own research work, the experts reported the basic knowledge and research progress in the relevant fields. The teachers introduced professional research results and highlighted the research ideas, technical routes and methods. With extensive professional knowledge, smart thinking methods, rigorous working attitude and easy-going style, the professors have deeply influenced the students both inside and outside the classroom. The students have learnt professional knowledge and thinking methods, especially more insights, experiences, and thinking beyond their majors. In this summer school, 56 doctoral students recommended by the standing members of Chinese Society for Immunology come from military and local colleges and research institutes in 35 provinces and municipalities around the country, covering different fields of immunology from basic research to clinical medicine.

All the organizers and teachers of the summer school won high praise from the trainees for their careful dedication and hard work. At the end of the course, the students talked about their feelings and gains, highly praising the teacher team, course arrangement, living conditions, teaching results and amateur life during the summer school and sincerely appreciating the teachers from the executive organizer, the National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of Antibody Drug Development Technology, School of Medicine, Henan University. The event has stimulated the academic enthusiasm of doctoral students to learn more cutting-edge and comprehensive knowledge of immunology and make more and greater contributions to the development of Chinese immunology.

It is reported that the "Summer School" project of the Chinese Society for Immunology was established to enrich the extracurricular professional education of doctoral students and actively explore the research potential of postgraduates. It is known as the "Whampoa Military Academy" in the field of immunology. The summer school has been held for seven times and provided a good learning opportunity for numerous doctoral students to broaden the research thoughts and widened their scope of knowledge, thus won the praise of teachers and students from all major universities.
